A father and his son were walking through the hills when the boy suddenly tripped on the trail and cried out:
Boy:
“Aah!”
To his surprise, he heard the same voice coming from the mountains.
Echo:
“Aah!”
The boy looked around.
Boy:
“What was that?”
Father:
“That was an echo.”
The boy decided to test it.
Boy:
“Who are you?”
The mountain answered:
Echo:
“Who are you?”
The boy became annoyed.
Boy:
“You’re stupid!”
The mountain replied:
Echo:
“You’re stupid!”
The boy looked at his father, completely confused.
Boy:
“What is happening?”
His father smiled.
Father:
“Listen carefully.”
Then the father shouted toward the mountains:
Father:
“You are wonderful!”
The mountain answered:
Echo:
“You are wonderful!”
The boy smiled.
Father:
“This is called an echo, but it is also a lesson about life.”
Boy:
“What lesson?”
His father replied:
Father:
“Life often gives back what you give to it. If you show anger, you’ll often receive anger. If you show kindness, kindness will come back to you.”
The boy nodded.
Then he smiled at the mountain and shouted:
Boy:
“I love you!”
The mountain replied:
Echo:
“I love you!”
The boy laughed, and his father smiled.
Father:
“Remember, wherever you go, your actions have a way of coming back to you.”
